Introduction to Trauma-Informed Yoga
Learn to teach in a way that supports safety, connection, and the capacity to come back to yourself.
This module gives you a practical framework for understanding trauma, the nervous system, and what it means to teach in a way that supports safety and connection—and we'd love to have you join us. You'll learn how trauma shows up in the body, how to recognize trauma responses, and how to create the conditions where people can find their way back to themselves.
Grounded in Nervous System Science, and trauma-informed principles, this module reframes the work—it’s about cultivating awareness, connection, and the capacity to return to yourself. Together, we’ll explore the nervous system, the stress response, and the Window of Tolerance. We’ll learn what gets in the way of feeling safe—and what supports the ability to come back into balance. And we’ll practice the tools you’ll use in every class: grounding, orienting, resourcing, and trauma-informed cueing.
What you'll learn
We’ll begin with a question: What does safety feel like in your body?
From there, we’ll explore how the nervous system responds to stress and threat—hypervigilance, shutdown, anxiety, panic, depression, rumination, and dissociation. We’ll also look at Polyvagal Theory and the Vagus Nerve, and how these frameworks explain why people get stuck in fight, flight, freeze, or fawn.
We’ll also explore the difference between safe spaces and emergent spaces—and why we cultivate the latter in our teaching. Then you’ll learn grounding, orienting, and resourcing techniques to support safety and connection. And we’ll practice trauma-informed hands-on assists and co-regulation skills.
This matters because trauma-informed isn’t a label you add to your bio. It’s a lens for everything you do—how you cue, how you hold space, how you show up.
What Makes This Module Different
Most trauma-informed trainings teach you about trauma. This one teaches you how to work with it.
You’re not just learning theory. You’ll practice the skills you’ll use in every class—grounding, orienting, resourcing, and co-regulation—so they become second nature. And you’ll learn in a live, cohort-based environment where you practice these skills with real people, in real time.
The Be K.I.N.D. Embodied Wisdom Methodology
We’ll apply the Be K.I.N.D. Embodied Wisdom Methodology through a trauma-informed lens. Keen Observation helps you recognize trauma responses in yourself and your students. Interoceptive Awareness builds the capacity to sense what’s happening in the body. Nurturing Action supports conditions where safety and connection can be cultivated. And Developing Embodied Practices gives you the tools to support yourself and others over time.
This isn’t just about trauma. It’s about how we show up, how we hold space, and how we care for ourselves so we can care for others.
Throughout the module, we’ll learn together. This is a live, cohort-based module, so you’re not just learning from me—we are all learning from each other.

Hi, I'm Melanie
For over thirty years, I’ve been where you are—passionate about yoga’s healing potential but disillusioned by trainings that prioritize perfect poses over people. That’s why I founded the Life of Wellness Institute: to create a different kind of teacher training. Your lived experience matters more than handstands here. Nervous system science trumps rigid alignment cues. Ultimately, you’ll learn to build a career that sustains both your students and yourself.
My approach—honed through three decades as a yoga therapist and trauma educator—is what I call sacred pragmatism. No spiritual bypassing. No toxic positivity. Instead, just proven tools: breathwork adapted for real trauma recovery, movement that respects anatomical diversity, and business strategies that let you teach from integrity instead of burnout.
Over the years, hundreds of teachers have used this framework to carve their own paths—in hospitals, nonprofits, and private practices where their work actually changes lives. Now, I’m sharing every lesson I’ve learned so you can skip years of trial and error and step confidently into your calling.
This philosophy isn’t academic for me. It’s the lens I’ve used for over thirty years to understand people, trauma, and what it means to heal. That’s what I’m sharing with you.
Ultimately, this isn’t just about teaching yoga. It’s about creating spaces where healing happens—and making a living while you do it.
No pressure, just clarity!
