Advanced Yoga as Therapy: Applied Anatomy and Pain Science
Understand the body so you can work with pain—not just around it.
This module gives you an advanced framework for understanding the body, pain, and how yoga can support healing—and we'd love to have you join us. You'll learn how to work with the myofascial lines, understand the science of pain, and apply this knowledge to support clients with chronic pain, acute pain, and nervous system dysregulation. This isn't about diagnosing or treating—it's about understanding so you can show up with more skill and compassion.
Grounded in the principles of yoga therapy and the science of pain, this module reframes anatomy as a practical tool for working with people in pain—not just a list of muscles to memorize. Together, we’ll explore the myofascial lines, the neuromatrix of pain, and how the nervous system shapes the experience of pain. You’ll learn how to work with clients who are in pain, how to adapt practices, and how to stay within your scope of practice. This is not about becoming a yoga therapist—it is about understanding the body so you can support your clients with greater skill and compassion.
What you'll learn
We’ll begin with a question: What does it mean to work with pain—not just around it?
Then, we’ll explore the science of pain—how it works, why it persists, and how the nervous system shapes the experience of pain. You’ll learn about the myofascial lines and how they connect the body in functional patterns. You’ll also learn how to adapt practices for people in pain, how to work with chronic and acute pain, and how to stay within your scope of practice.
We’ll also explore how to take effective notes and track client progress, so you can work with clients in a way that is informed, intentional, and grounded in the principles of yoga therapy.
This matters because pain is not just a physical experience—it is shaped by the nervous system, the mind, and the stories we tell ourselves. When you understand that, you can show up for your clients with more skill, compassion, and presence.
What Makes This Module Different
Most anatomy trainings teach you muscles and bones. This one teaches you how the body actually works—and how to work with people in pain. You are not just learning anatomy. You are learning a framework for understanding the body that will transform how you work with clients.
This is not about diagnosing or treating. It is about understanding so you can support your clients with skill, compassion, and confidence.
The Be K.I.N.D. Embodied Wisdom Methodology
We’ll apply the Be K.I.N.D. Embodied Wisdom Methodology through the lens of applied anatomy and pain science. Keen Observation helps you see what is happening in your client’s body and nervous system. Interoceptive Awareness builds your capacity to sense what is happening in your own body and mind. Nurturing Action supports compassionate, client-centred practice. And Developing Embodied Practices gives you the tools to sustain yourself in this work.
Throughout the module, we’ll learn together. This is a live, cohort-based module, so you are not just learning from me—we are all learning from each other.

Hi, I'm Melanie
For over thirty years, I’ve been where you are—passionate about yoga’s healing potential but disillusioned by trainings that prioritize perfect poses over people. That’s why I founded the Life of Wellness Institute: to create a different kind of teacher training. Your lived experience matters more than handstands here. Nervous system science trumps rigid alignment cues. Ultimately, you’ll learn to build a career that sustains both your students and yourself.
My approach—honed through three decades as a yoga therapist and trauma educator—is what I call sacred pragmatism. No spiritual bypassing. No toxic positivity. Instead, just proven tools: breathwork adapted for real trauma recovery, movement that respects anatomical diversity, and business strategies that let you teach from integrity instead of burnout.
Over the years, hundreds of teachers have used this framework to carve their own paths—in hospitals, nonprofits, and private practices where their work actually changes lives. Now, I’m sharing every lesson I’ve learned so you can skip years of trial and error and step confidently into your calling.
This philosophy isn’t academic for me. It’s the lens I’ve used for over thirty years to understand people, trauma, and what it means to heal. That’s what I’m sharing with you.
Ultimately, this isn’t just about teaching yoga. It’s about creating spaces where healing happens—and making a living while you do it.
No pressure, just clarity!
