Yin Yoga and the Fire Element

Stillness isn’t passive. It’s the courage to stay, and the wisdom to know when to pause and rest

This module gives you a practical framework for understanding yin yoga through the lens of the fire element—and we'd love to have you join us. You'll learn how to cultivate the courage to be with yourself exactly as you are, tend to what needs attention, and know when to pause and rest. This is not about pushing through—it's about being present with what is.

Grounded in Viniyoga and the fire element, this module reframes yin as a practice of active holding and tending—not passive rest or pushing through. Together, we’ll explore the qualities of Tejas (fire), the manipura chakra, and how to work with heat, stability, and the courage to stay present. We’ll learn how to write yin practices that support transformation, and how to adapt for each person’s unique needs—without pushing past their limits

What you'll learn

We’ll begin with a question: What does it mean to be with yourself exactly as you are?

Then, we’ll explore the fire element and how it shows up in practice—not as a bond fire, but as the heat that helps us weed and plant the garden. We’ll work with manipura chakra and the qualities of Tejas to cultivate courage and fortitude. And we’ll learn how to write yin practices that meet people where they are.

We’ll also explore the balance of sankalpa (heartfelt intention) and vikalpa (the part of us that thinks we need to be fixed). You’ll learn how to tend to what needs attention, how to cultivate contentment and surrender as active choices, and how to adapt for each person’s unique needs and capacity.

This matters because yin isn’t passive. It’s the courage to be present with what is—and the wisdom to know when to tend elsewhere.

What Makes This Module Different

Most yin trainings teach you poses. This one teaches you a framework—fire element, koshas, and Ayurveda—so you can tend to what needs attention and meet people where they are.

You’re not just learning yin poses. You’re learning how to work with the fire element, how to cultivate courage and fortitude, how to tend to the garden of yourself and others, and how to write yin practices that support transformation without pushing past limits. And you’re learning in a live, cohort-based environment where you can practice these skills with real people, in real time.

The Be K.I.N.D. Embodied Wisdom Methodology

We’ll apply the Be K.I.N.D. Embodied Wisdom Methodology through a yin and fire element lens. Keen Observation helps you see what needs tending—in yourself and others. Interoceptive Awareness builds the capacity to sense what’s happening in the body. Nurturing Action supports compassionate action for what needs attention. And Developing Embodied Practices gives you the tools to support yourself and others over time.

Throughout the module, we’ll learn together. This is a live, cohort-based module, so you’re not just learning from me—we are all learning from each other.

Hi, I'm Melanie

For over thirty years, I’ve been where you are—passionate about yoga’s healing potential but disillusioned by trainings that prioritize perfect poses over people. That’s why I founded the Life of Wellness Institute: to create a different kind of teacher training. Your lived experience matters more than handstands here. Nervous system science trumps rigid alignment cues. Ultimately, you’ll learn to build a career that sustains both your students and yourself.

My approach—honed through three decades as a yoga therapist and trauma educator—is what I call sacred pragmatism. No spiritual bypassing. No toxic positivity. Instead, just proven tools: breathwork adapted for real trauma recovery, movement that respects anatomical diversity, and business strategies that let you teach from integrity instead of burnout.

Over the years, hundreds of teachers have used this framework to carve their own paths—in hospitals, nonprofits, and private practices where their work actually changes lives. Now, I’m sharing every lesson I’ve learned so you can skip years of trial and error and step confidently into your calling.

This philosophy isn’t academic for me. It’s the lens I’ve used for over thirty years to understand people, trauma, and what it means to heal. That’s what I’m sharing with you.

Ultimately, this isn’t just about teaching yoga. It’s about creating spaces where healing happens—and making a living while you do it.

No pressure, just clarity!
