Functional Yoga Anatomy and Physiology

Anatomy isn’t about memorizing muscles. It’s about understanding how the body moves.

This module gives you a practical framework for understanding how the body moves in yoga—not just what poses look like, but how to support people in finding ease, stability, and adaptability in their practice. You'll learn to meet people where they are and work with what they bring.

Grounded in functional anatomy and the Viniyoga lens, this module reframes anatomy as something you use—not something you memorize. Together, we’ll explore how bodies move and function, and how to support that movement in every practice. You’ll learn to see movement patterns, not just poses, and to adapt and support each person’s unique needs and body, whether they’re finding stability in tree pose or ease in a forward fold.

What you'll learn

We’ll begin with a question: What is movement?

Then, we’ll explore how bodies actually move—how joints, muscles, and fascia work together to create stability, flexibility, and ease. We’ll learn to see movement patterns, not just poses. And we’ll practice adapting for each person’s unique needs, working with what they bring to the proverbial mat.

We’ll also look at the myofascial lines—the connective tissue that runs throughout the body—and how understanding them helps us support functional movement. We’ll explore core engagement, spinal elongation, and how to find stability in movement.

This matters because functional anatomy isn’t about memorizing muscles. It’s about understanding how bodies move, so you can meet any person where they are.

What Makes This Module Different

Most anatomy courses teach you to memorize muscles, origins, and insertions—information that doesn’t translate to what you actually do on the mat. This one teaches you how to see movement, adapt for real people, and support how each body moves and functions.

You’re not just learning anatomy. You’re learning a lens for understanding how people move, so you can meet them where they are.

The Be K.I.N.D. Embodied Wisdom Methodology

We’ll apply the Be K.I.N.D. Embodied Wisdom Methodology through a functional anatomy lens. Keen Observation helps you see movement patterns, not just poses. Interoceptive Awareness builds the capacity to sense what’s happening in the body. Nurturing Action supports adaptation and ease. And Developing Embodied Practices gives you the tools to support yourself and others over time.

Throughout the module, we’ll learn together. This is a live, cohort-based module, so you’re not just learning from me—we are all learning from each other.

Hi, I'm Melanie

For over thirty years, I’ve been where you are—passionate about yoga’s healing potential but disillusioned by trainings that prioritize perfect poses over people. That’s why I founded the Life of Wellness Institute: to create a different kind of teacher training. Your lived experience matters more than handstands here. Nervous system science trumps rigid alignment cues. Ultimately, you’ll learn to build a career that sustains both your students and yourself.

My approach—honed through three decades as a yoga therapist and trauma educator—is what I call sacred pragmatism. No spiritual bypassing. No toxic positivity. Instead, just proven tools: breathwork adapted for real trauma recovery, movement that respects anatomical diversity, and business strategies that let you teach from integrity instead of burnout.

Over the years, hundreds of teachers have used this framework to carve their own paths—in hospitals, nonprofits, and private practices where their work actually changes lives. Now, I’m sharing every lesson I’ve learned so you can skip years of trial and error and step confidently into your calling.

This philosophy isn’t academic for me. It’s the lens I’ve used for over thirty years to understand people, trauma, and what it means to heal. That’s what I’m sharing with you.

Ultimately, this isn’t just about teaching yoga. It’s about creating spaces where healing happens—and making a living while you do it.

No pressure, just clarity!
